Training & Safety
V. Van Dyke takes pride in ensuring our employees are well-trained and up-to-date on best practices, skills, and other educational requirements. These include:
For Commercial Drivers (CDL Holders):
- CDL Training and Endorsements, including Class A or B licenses and other additional endorsements (e.g., doubles/triples, tanker, hazmat, air brakes)
- ELDT (Entry-Level Driver Training), required for new CDL applicants since 2022 under FMCSA rules.
- Hours of Service (HOS) & ELD Compliance, including use of electronic logging devices and ensuring familiarity with legal driving limits.
- Vehicle Inspection & Pre-Trip Checks, required for DOT compliance and safety.
- Load Securement & Oversize Load Training, which is especially important as it varies from state to state, where many companies handle oversized or overweight loads. Training here may cover chains, straps, flagging, escort requirements, and permitting.
- Defensive Driving & Accident Avoidance
- Drug & Alcohol Awareness / DOT Testing Protocols
- Winter Driving & Mountain Terrain Safety, which is relevant to the weather and geography of the Pacific Northwest (e.g., passes like Siskiyou, Santiam, etc.).
For Warehouse Personnel:
- Forklift Certification (OSHA Required)
- Hazard Communication (HazCom/GHS), including handling of chemicals, labeling, SDS use, etc.
- Material Handling & Lifting Safety
- Pallet Jack & Warehouse Equipment Training
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), for working with energized equipment
- Fire Safety & Evacuation Procedures
- First Aid/CPR, to ensure an on-the-job safety mindset and readiness
Company-wide/all V. VanDyke employees:
- OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Training, especially for warehouse managers and safety supervisors
- Workplace Safety / Injury Prevention, tailored to facility and worksite risks
- Sexual Harassment & Workplace Conduct
- Cybersecurity Awareness, including best-practices for dispatch, tracking, and billing systems
- Environmental Compliance
